SFW reference site - educational and cultural focus, no explicit material

Safety & Content Policy

The rules that keep Hentai.biz an SFW reference site, even when the topics it covers are aimed at adult audiences.

Last reviewed on 2026-04-27.

1. The basic rule

Hentai.biz discusses Japanese manga and anime - including genres marketed to adult audiences - in an encyclopedic register. The site itself contains no explicit imagery, no audio, no video, no embedded players, no downloads, and no links to explicit material on third-party sites. Where a topic involves adult themes, those themes are described in text only, in the same way a media-studies textbook or an encyclopedia entry would describe them.

2. Imagery standards

Allowed

  • The site logo and other interface graphics.
  • Educational diagrams, charts, and infographics created for an article (for example, the proportion guides on the art-analysis pages).
  • Historical artwork that is itself non-explicit and is presented with academic context (for example, ukiyo-e landscapes; not shunga prints).
  • Book covers, magazine covers, or screenshots only when they are themselves SFW.

Not allowed

  • Nudity, partial nudity, or sexually suggestive imagery in any form.
  • Graphic violence, gore, or shock imagery.
  • Imagery sexualising minors or characters depicted as minors. This is a hard line and is non-negotiable, regardless of artistic, cultural, or "fictional" framing.
  • Imagery whose primary purpose is to be erotic, even if technically non-graphic.

3. Writing standards for sensitive topics

Some topic areas on this site - adult genres, censorship law, fandom psychology - are sensitive by nature. The editorial approach to those topics is:

  • Describe, do not glamorize. Articles explain what a genre or convention is and where it comes from. They do not encourage readers to seek it out.
  • Stay in the encyclopedic register. Avoid sensationalism, suggestive language, or "spicy" framing.
  • No explicit detail. Even in text, articles do not describe explicit acts, anatomy, or scenarios. They describe genres at the level of premise, history, and cultural context.
  • Take minors seriously. Articles that touch on the legal or ethical debates around depictions of minors (for example, the loli/shota controversy page) treat the topic as a controversy, not as content to celebrate. The site does not host, link to, or recommend material that sexualises minors.

4. Links to outside material

External links are used for context: journals, libraries, museums, encyclopedias, recognized industry bodies, official artist or studio sites, and similar resources. We try to link only to sources that are themselves SFW or whose linked landing page is SFW. Following any external link remains your decision; we cannot guarantee the contents or future state of a third-party site.

The site does not link to streaming, hosting, download, or pirate sites for any kind of content - explicit or otherwise.

5. Audience

Hentai.biz is written for a general adult and young-adult audience: students, journalists, fans, translators, designers, parents, and curious readers. Articles are written so that an interested high-school or university student can read them in a public library or classroom setting without surprise.

The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. See the privacy policy for details.

6. Editorial process

Pages on this site go through a small number of editorial steps:

  1. Drafting - the article is written to the rules above.
  2. Review - the draft is read end-to-end for tone, accuracy, and SFW compliance. Anything that crosses the imagery or writing rules in Sections 2 and 3 is removed before publication.
  3. Linking - internal and external links are checked against Section 4.
  4. Maintenance - articles are revisited when reader feedback flags an error or when something material changes. The "Last reviewed" date on a page reflects the most recent review.

7. Reporting a concern

If you find a page on this site that you think breaks one of these rules - for example, an image that should not be there, a passage that crosses the editorial line, or a link that points somewhere it should not - please write to contact@hentai.biz with the URL and a short description. Reports that look credible are acted on quickly.

8. Copyright

Articles describe and discuss copyrighted works. We do not host or distribute copies of those works. Copyright concerns are handled through the DMCA procedure.

9. Changes to this policy

This page is updated when the editorial process changes or when feedback shows a rule needs to be clearer. Significant changes are reflected in the "Last reviewed" date.
